Much maligned when it first opened, it took people some time to realize that the Centre Pompidou wasn’t a monster, it was simply new. Radically new. It’s fitting that this rule-breaking building hosts so many iconoclastic modern masterpieces. Join the line and get right into a building that wears its innards on its exterior.
Located right in the heart of Paris, this museum can in fact be described as a "turned-up" building: functional elements such as pipes, ventilation ducts and cables are part of the external façade, and the interior is visible thanks to transparent windows.
All this prepares the visitor for the extraordinarily innovative art kept inside. Start from the top floor and explore the various "-isms": Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Dadaism and Surrealism, all displayed in chronological order to retrace the twentieth century. You will be able to admire works by Picasso, Man Ray, Chagall and many others.
From 1960 onwards, the categorization changed from modern to contemporary. Andy Warhol may be the most well-known of the artists on display, but you'll also see amazing works by luminaries such as Richard Hamilton, Dan Flavin and Louise Bourgeois.
Inside the Pompidou Centre you'll also find an extensive public library and a music and acoustics research centre, and you'll have the chance to enjoy some of the city's most beautiful views. Visit the parts of your choice, but don't miss the chance to go up to the top floor to admire the Eiffel Tower and the rooftops of Paris. It's all included in these Paris Pompidou Center tickets!
