There was a time when the master Rembrandt van Rijn ran the largest painting studio in the Netherlands right here. Then he lost everything when he went bankrupt. See a selection of wonderful sketches and engravings by the Dutch master, and learn what life was like during the 17th century by visiting the artist's beautifully restored Amsterdam townhouse.
Between 1639 and 1658, Rembrandt lived and worked in this charming house in Amsterdam, where he also began to collect shells (yes, really, lots of them!). A large part of Rembrandt's entire collection of etchings is now on display in the Rembrandt House, along with many of his possessions.
See an authentic collection of helmets and military weapons, as well as Roman busts and, of course, all the shells!
The Rembrandt House has been renovated with furniture, artwork and objects dating back to the seventeenth century, so that you can discover his home as it may have been at the time and offer you a taste of what the artist's world was like.
